Otaku Expo event + Indie comics for Komikon

Previously: Otaku Expo

The event was held last Sept 3-4, 2011 @ SM Megamall. We weren't really planning to attend the event, that is, not until we learned about there will be an indie artists alley. I always check out artist booths during conventions - I think it's something you just shouldn't miss

Though I always wanted to try signing up for it I don't really feel confident about joining. And then less than 2 weeks before Otaku Expo I mentioned it to ~gurachan ...and next thing I remember we've signed up. We're that impulsive sometimes

I had a couple of story ideas then that I wanted to convert to comics but we didn't have enough time for it. We ended up making lots of laminated keychains from chibi fanarts we made during the long weekend and even during the event day. Thanks for the help Steph and Kuya Raph ^^ Did I forget to mention that we were still making keychains in the car on the way to Megamall?

So anyway during the event we met ~MaigretEcho17 and ~monjava of deviantART and it's also their first time to do something like this ^^. It was great to meet both of them though I didn't get to talk to them very long (but ~gurachan did haha.) Hope to see you guys again on the next events

DAY 1

-- We didn't get to check out the other artist booths during day 1 partly because we were late and partly because it's really hard to leave your table once you've settled because of the limited space and I don't want to disturb other artists by potentially shaking their tables  But day 1 was awesome even when we were stuck behind the table

THANKS VERY MUCH to everyone who dropped by to look at and buy our keychains  Also thanks to Alfie for commissioning me (sorry I wasn't the most coherent person on earth that day XD I also owe you some freebie keychains that I didn't get to give you. Hope I can still give them to you some other time ^^)

DAY 2

-- was much quieter and because we had Steph watching our stuffs for us, and I was able to hop around, take pictures, check out the other artist tables, ask for everyone's DA account name, buy something from almost everyone (though it's sad I didn't find ~robins-egg-crayon who is one of the artists I really admire and also ~monjava didn't return for day 2.)

We had some of our original drawings displayed this day and it's great when people check it out and smile. We appreciate everyone who passed by whether to look or buy or take a picture. Once again, thank you all!

By closing time some of the artists gave everyone from the artist tables some freebies from their merchandise (I think this was started by =enjelia.) Thanks you guys  I wish we had something more special to give away because we only have our keychains. I hope people liked them though  Sadly, some artists have already left so we didn't get to give them any keepsake.

Btw I don't remember which day it was but Erza Scarlet (a cosplayer but Erza all the same! XD) stopped by to buy some keychains and Nello and I were fangirling in our tables. Haha.

So all in all we had a blast. Thanks Otakuzine staff for giving us this chance! To ms Ciarra thanks for the patience w/ our inquiries. Next time we'll have more actual drawings on our tables and also some comics ^_^

 Next up: Komikon

Next event we're going to is komikon in November. We've signed up and are a few steps away to finalizing our application. We have to finish the covers on time so we can keep our temporary slot. XD

We'll be busy with two original comics and one fancomics for the next weeks but that's a great and fun way to be busy, right Nello? :)

For those of you who are interested in this event (and I don't know why you shouldn't be) please visit komikon's official website or better yet visit them here: ~komikon

See you whenever!

Fairy Tail Chapter 221 Review.. and a commentary on "Character Death"

They totally skipped Mirajane and Lisanna!!!  *Not that I didn't expect it...my friend totally predicted that 221 will be focused on the 7 kins and we won't see what happens to Mira and Lisanna anytime soon.* Poof. Well, here goes another week of waiting! :'(

-

I must say, it was disappointing that Zeref and Urtear's fight wasn't shown. After all the hype w/ Zeref's "I'm angry"... all we see is him losing to Urtear. x.x

Elfman and Evergreen's part for this chapter looked good. They managed to show Evergreen's magic's weakness, and yet I'm starting to think these two could make a good fighting tandem.

Natsu's down, which was good imo. He's been having a LOT of powerups lately for my liking. I hope he'd get a rest for a while. I'm sure they'd make him do some heroistic entrance again later on. :eyeroll (PS- I really do find you adorable Natsu. I'm just not fond of too many unexplainable powerups.)

At last they made it a bit clearer now what GH want from Zeref. I guess FT mages will fight more vigorously now that they know what evil is being planned.

I keep getting excited seeing that Erza and Juvia are facing the same opponent. I hope they'll have some sort of combo! Both fighters are really good. It's interesting to know what they can do together.

As for Lisanna... well, overall I would like to see Lisanna improve, but I wouldn't want to see that as early as next time we see her. I mean, I don't want her to suddenly go demonic (or have a sudden power surge of sort) and pwn Azuma like Mirajane did to Fried when she thought Elfman could die. It would be so...unreal.

-

When I first saw Charle's vision, I thought it was Makarov's hand. haha. But people are saying it's a feminine hand. I really don't want to accept yet that it's Mira. I guess it is about time FT would take some real loss on their side... but I really can't imagine FT without Mira.

I mean whew, she's been there from the start. She's always the one explaining things to Lucy. We haven't seen much of her fights, and some of FT's major battles she didn't take part at all (like in the Tower and in Edoras) but even so she's always been one to welcome the team back. She has good leadership skills too, in Phantom arc we saw how she and Cana could take over leading the other FT mages while Team Natsu is busy fighting.

I was also hoping to see her fight more often. I mean hey, she actually said herself she still has a lot to learn when it comes to fighting. (she said to Erza after being beat by Elfman and Evergreen..). I had high hopes of seeing Demon Mira in more awesome fights.

But then this is death we're talking about. Death usually comes unexpectedly, and it hurt more that way. If that's what Mashima is trying to achieve when he decides someone would die, then he'd achieve that with Mira. The more unexpected, the more hopes are there to be shattered, the more a presence will be missed, the more "effective" a character death will be.

If Mira really did die. I'm still crossing my fingers hoping she did not!

RIP Mirajane?

-spoilers to come, so you better have read FT220 first-

I've been waiting for Fairy Tail 220 all week. Yesterday I logged off really late hoping it would be uploaded but it wasn't. And yes, here it is! Chapter 220.

I was all excited when I saw that the chapter centers on Mirajane. I was fired up reading until I realized what was going to happen... and when it did, I just don't want to accept it. Did she, really, got herself killed?
[] Yes [] No [] Not sure [] Haven't read it yet? (then read!)
I see as early as now forum threads with the same title as this post have started to appear, arguing whether she's gone or not...

^ I don't know if I should believe what was implied. Yes- I said implied, since it's not very much confirmed yet. This being Fairy Tail by Hiro Mashima... you can't really tell.  I was told when I started reading FT that Mashima's characters have the habit of coming back from the dead, or turning out as not-really-so-dead-yet. I didn't give it much thought then, but now I do.

I certainly hope they were right telling me not to believe when a character seems to have died. I hope Mira's not really dead! I don't think we've seen enough of Demon Mira in action. She has just started to fight again :(

Hiro Mashima, you better take it back as soon as next chapter. Not Mira. Phuleassse. I don't want another favorite character of mine to die.

I am thinking maybe this is just made so Lisanna would have a "reason" to become stronger. Like, Mira's death would be like a Berserk button for her (mirroring Mira's sudden surge of power when Elfman was almost killed) and she'd have some awesome fight scene to her credit and release hidden powers and all, but it'd turn out big sis is not dead after all... or something. Maybe it's going to be like that. I don't know.

I just wanna say I hope it's not really a goodbye yet for Mirajane :(
